Volvo’s exciting pair of SUVs includes
the XC60, which is a great choice for motorists who typically travel in towns
and cities. Its compact dimensions make it particularly adept at threading
through traffic and fitting into parking spaces. This premium crossover
compares very favourably with others of its kind produced by manufacturers such
as BMW and Land Rover.
This stylish mid-size SUV benefits from a number of eye-catching features, such as a smart-looking radiator grille, which is flanked by Norse-hammer-like LED daytime running lights. The car is adorned with 18-inch alloy wheels too, which are both lightweight and elegant. The XC60 is a rather sporty-looking crossover, with a curvier body and lower drive height than the larger XC90. The vehicle also features a power-operated tailgate, which provides quick access to the luggage compartment.
Despite its relatively diminutive stature, the XC60 offers plenty of space for up to five travellers, with generous leg and headroom in each compartment. You’ll find the vehicle’s comfortable, supportive seats most welcoming, particularly during lengthy journeys, and they are boosted by a refined ride (especially when optional air suspension is included). While delivering surprising levels of passenger space, the XC60 also finds room for a 505-litre boot which can be expanded to 1,432 litres.
A 2.0-litre 190bhp diesel engine is fitted as standard with entry-level XC60 models. This delivers 400Nm of torque and 0-60mph in a little more than eight seconds. It also manages up to 54mpg and produces a 136g/km CO2 emissions figure, making it the most fuel-efficient option available for the car.
All models feature climate control, ensuring that an agreeable in-cabin temperature is always easy to achieve. A nine-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen is included as standard too. This provides easy access to – and control of – a number of functions, such as a DAB digital radio and satellite navigation. Bluetooth connectivity features too, enabling you to stream music from your compatible smartphone, and use it to make and receive hands-free calls.
A car that sports a Volvo badge is guaranteed to come equipped with a raft of driver aids and passive safety features – and the XC60 is certainly no exception. Included are Autonomous Emergency Braking and Steer Assist, for example. The former monitors traffic conditions ahead, automatically applying braking pressure where necessary if the driver fails to do so. The latter, meanwhile, works in tandem with Blind-spot Monitoring in order to avoid potential collisions by manoeuvring the car out of the way of encroaching vehicles.
